Mission Statement

 

To ensure a safe and comfortable transport system for all of our students and staff travelling to and from Coláiste Ailigh on school outings, games etc. in accordance with the highest health and safety standards.

 

General Guidelines for Students

 

  1. All students should remain seated at all times and in the places designated by the Teacher in Charge.
  2. All students are required to wear seat belts which are mandatory on all school buses serving our school/centre.
  3. Courtesy and respect must be shown to all drivers at all times.
  4. Times of Departure are very important. All students must report for boarding at the scheduled time.
  5. Gangways must not be blocked with luggage;
  6. No portable tank containing fuel must be carried
  7. Litter must not be left behind on the bus.

 

General Guidelines for the Teacher in Charge

 

  1. Understand that the Bus Driver is responsible for the loading and control of the vehicle.
  2. Enquire as to the availability of appropriate First Aid should the need arise
  3. Ensure that courtesy and respect is shown to the driver at all times.
  4. Designate seating places for all students and staff.
  5. Ensure that all students remain seated at all times and in their designated places.
  6. Direct all students and staff to wear seat belts when the bus is in motion.
  7. Ensure that all students are aware of departure times and arrival times and keep to the schedule of times.
  8. Ensure that all students report for boarding at the scheduled time.
  1. Gangways must not be blocked with luggage;

  2. Ensure good hygiene practice by students (e.g. litter must not be left behind on the bus etc.)

General Guidelines for Bus Contractors

 

  1. All bus operators shall, on commencement of contract, provide Coláiste Ailigh with the following necessary documentation in relation to its proposed operation.

For each Bus to be used

  • Registration number of the bus.
  • Vehicle Testing Certification of Road Worthiness (VTC8)
  • Certificate of Insurance
  • PSV Licence
  • Seating capacity of the bus
  • A statement that all seats have approved seat belts attached.
  • A statement that assigned bus drivers have child protection approval
  1. A suitable First Aid kit will be available on each bus
  2. Gangways must not be blocked with luggage
  3. No portable tank containing fuel must be carried
  4. It is the responsibility of the operator to maintain the upkeep and repair of the bus so that it is in perfect working order and complies with safety legislation.
  5. Should the operator change the vehicle through the contract, the operator is obliged to inform the school/college/centre of same and supply the school/college/centre with relevant documentation of the new vehicle within a period of five working days.
  6. The driver should use a bus-bay when one is available. In any event the driver will not pick up or drop off a student at any point other than the designated point unless permission is given by the Teacher in Charge.
  7. The driver should show respect to the students.
  8. Normal school rules relating to such things as uniform, substance abuse, camera phones etc. apply.
  9. In the event of a breakdown and or/serious incident the Principal/Deputy Principal should be immediately contacted and informed of the details of the event.
  10. In the event of a serious break-down, a replacement bus must be provided in the shortest possible timeframe.
