Comhthéacs na scoile
Is coláiste pobail measctha é Coláiste Ailigh. Bunaíodh é sa bhliain 2000 chun freastal ar scoláirí i mBaile Leitir Ceanainn agus sa cheantar máguaird. Tá 325 scoláire ag freastal ar an scoil faoi láthair. Tháinig 68 isteach sa chéad bhliain i Meán Fómhair 2024 agus astu sin, tháinig 45 ó ghaelscoileanna sa réigiún, agus an cuid eile as na scoileanna seo a leanas: Scoil an tSratha Mhoir, Bunscoil Naomh Bríd, Na Dúnaibh, St Conals PS, Portnoo, Scoil Naisiúnta Glasáin, Bunscoil Cholmcille, Devlinreagh, Scoil Mhuire, Caiseal (Fanad).
Is í an Ghaeilge phríomhtheanga chumarsáide agus oibre na scoile. Cuirtear an-bhéim ar an Ghaeilge mar theanga chaidrimh na foirne, na scoláirí agus pobal na scoile. Múintear gach ábhar trí mheán na Gaeilge (seachas na teangacha iasachta) agus úsáidtear an Ghaeilge ag gach ócáid scoile taobh istigh agus taobh amuigh den scoil. Ní Gaeilgeoir gach tuismitheoir agus ar an ábhar sin déantar cuid d’obair na scoile (cruinnithe tuismitheoirí, mar shampla) trí mheán an Bhéarla nuair is gá, agus eisítear comhfhreagras dátheangach i gcónaí do thuismitheoirí.
Leanann gach scoláire cúrsa trí bliana sa tSraith Shóisearach agus dhá bhliain sa tSraith Shinsearach. Bíonn rogha ag scoláirí an Idirbhliain a dhéanamh. Roghnaíonn tromlach na ndaltaí cúrsa na hIdirbhliana a dhéanamh.
Coláiste Ailigh was opened in September 2000 in rented accommodation in Sprackburn House in Letterkenny, becoming the VEC’s third All-Irish School. Permanent recognition was received from the Department of Education and Science in 2003. The school caters not only for pupils from the Letterkenny area, but also has pupils enrolled from as far away as Fanad, Carrigart, Downings, Creeslough, Termon and Strabane.
In November 2013 the school community took a giant leap forward on Coláiste Ailigh’s journey when they moved into their beautiful modern new school building in Knocknamona, the first school under Donegal ETB’s remit to be built under the Public Private Partnership scheme. The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD performed the official opening of the school on 12th May 2014.
